Three Kingdoms: Battle for the World Class and Troop Counter Guide
How Three Kingdoms: Battle for the World's six class talent trees work, the shield-bow-spear-cavalry ring, and when terrain changes the plan.
There is no global English client. The English title comes from the Korean release; the Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, and Southeast Asia build ships under a Chinese title. What you download is a Korean or Traditional Chinese client, and your alliance will speak one of those languages.
That matters less than the class decision. The six classes are not stat packages with different icons. Each one owns a talent tree the others cannot take, and the tree changes what your account can do on the map even when your army is weaker than the enemy's.
Six trees, not six skins
The labels below are descriptive translations, not official names. The behavior is the part that is consistent across sources.
- Vanguard: emergency conscription refills reserve troops on demand, momentum absorbs enemy troops after a won player fight, and siege losses are refunded for a window. Its whole toolkit is built for sustained front-line pressure.
- Strategist: policies, terrain adaptation, feints and false information, plus fire and traps. In the right situation, fire is reported to beat two or three frontal armies. It has no hard lineup requirement, which makes it the most situational tree.
- Artisan: siege engines that ignore combat power, strategic buildings and equipment crafting. Engines can be handed to an ally to operate. This is the time-rich, power-poor class: your contribution is machinery, not your army.
- Physician: potions, treatment and revival, including recovery of heavily wounded troops at the front. Its value scales with how many allies are in the fight.
- Ranger: speed, scouting and flanking, including crossing frozen rivers that are otherwise impassable. It is the information and disruption tree.
- Quartermaster: supply, military farms and alliance logistics. It is the tree that keeps other people's armies refilled.
If your account is low power but you can attend sieges, the Artisan tree converts time into siege value. If you cannot attend, that value never lands, and the same is true of the Strategist's fire plans. If your alliance is short on sustain, Physician is worth more than another damage tree, because it multiplies allies rather than itself.
Read the ring before the power number
Troop types form a closed ring. No type beats everything, which is the point of the system.
| Your type | It beats | What that looks like |
|---|---|---|
| Shield | Bow | The wall closes the distance before archers can trade |
| Bow | Spear | Concentrated ranged fire breaks the spear block |
| Spear | Cavalry | Reach stops the charge before it lands |
| Cavalry | Shield | Speed gets around the wall instead of through it |
Sources dispute the exact per-level counter percentage. One reports a flat bonus per level, another contradicts it, and only the direction holds. Treat the ring as a targeting rule, not a damage formula. The three-unit same-type bonuses are also reported by a single source: shields take slightly less damage, spears gain damage and take slightly less, bows gain damage, and cavalry gain damage while taking less. That pattern is best read as a designed incentive to stack one type, not as values to plan around.
If the scout report is mostly shields, bring bows. If it is mostly cavalry, bring spears. Fielding the type that won the last fight is how a winning army walks into a hard counter.
Scout, then swap
The game lets you change troop type in the formation screen at low cost and low loss, and it does not lock you into a lineup. That combination is why scouting before every battle is not optional.
This is the only reliable way to beat higher combat power. A weaker army with the right counter beats a stronger army with the wrong one, because the ring multiplies the advantage that already exists. Combat power is a rough estimate; the counter is a known rule.
If you are attacking something above your power, scout first and swap second. If the correct counter is not available in your roster, do not march. A march you skip costs nothing; a march into a counter costs troops, stamina and the time to rebuild.
Terrain and weather are multipliers
The map is not a backdrop. Narrow ground favors shields and tactics, because the frontage is small and one held line blocks the road. Extreme cold and blizzards favor a sustain team that can absorb attrition rather than a burst team that runs dry. Frozen rivers open routes that are normally unreachable, which is a Ranger advantage rather than a shortcut for everyone.
Rain changes the Strategist plan. Fire tactics fail in heavy rain, so the correct response is to switch to physical or water tactics rather than force the same plan. The weather does not remove the class's value; it removes one branch of it.
If the forecast is rain, drop the fire plan before the march. If the ground is a narrow pass, put shields in front and let the Ranger find the flank. If the route crosses a frozen river, scout the far side before committing the main army.
The siege sequence across classes
When an alliance attacks a city, the classes fall into an order that comes from their jobs. The Artisan sets the engines first, the Vanguard presses the front, the Ranger cuts reinforcements, the Strategist adds fire and feints, the Physician recovers the heavily wounded, and the Quartermaster keeps supply moving from the rear. After a city relocation, the Artisan re-establishes defenses at the new chokepoint while the Quartermaster builds military farms.
If no Artisan is available at the start time, the engines need to be handed to an ally before the siege, not during it. If the alliance has the engines but no supply, the front line runs out before the wall does.
FAQ
Which troop type counters shields?
Bows. The ring runs shield beats bow, bow beats spear, spear beats cavalry, and cavalry beats shield.
Is the per-level counter bonus a fixed percentage?
The specific figure is disputed between sources and should not be treated as settled. Use the direction of the ring to choose troops, then judge the result from your own battle reports.
Are the six classes just reskins?
No. Each class has exclusive talents that change its map role, such as Vanguard conscription, Artisan siege engines and Quartermaster military farms. The class decides what your account contributes beyond its army.
