Fish Kingdoms Lineup Guide: Why Lü Bu Belongs at the Back

Why Lü Bu belongs in Fish Kingdoms' back row, how the four-gift sacrifice lineup works, which spirit fish to socket, and why three units clear faster.

If your Lü Bu is standing in slot one, you have thrown away the reason to field him. His damage does not come from a large base number. It comes from a trigger that fires after he has been hurt, and a front-row Lü Bu usually dies before it goes off.

One caveat before the lineup. The English build is the client that stopped updating in October 2023, and the overseas line later shipped under a different package name. The two generations are not confirmed to share values, so treat every threshold below as a community lead rather than a patch note.

The heart-demon trigger rewards being nearly dead

The mechanic is often described as a stat bonus. It is not. When Lü Bu's health first crosses a low line, three things happen together: his rage bar refills, he starts healing a large share of the damage he deals, and his attack rises for the rest of the fight. The trigger is one-time. The ideal state is not a healthy Lü Bu but a Lü Bu pushed just under the line while the enemy is still committed.

Sources disagree on where the line sits. One group of write-ups uses a general low-health reading around half. Another describes a first drop below 30 percent, paired with a reported 120 percent attack and defense increase, a speed increase and lifesteal near half of damage dealt. Those figures are player estimates, not a published table. What survives the disagreement is the direction: the lower he goes without dying, the more the fight turns.

The placement rule follows directly. Put him in the back and put the pieces you can afford to lose in front. If he dies before the trigger, the problem is your healer or the enemy's area damage, not his position. If the enemy opens with area damage, move the healer forward rather than moving Lü Bu up.

Four gifts, one carry

The common name is a sacrifice lineup, and it is literal. It is not four units protecting one. It is four units spent so that one can finish.

SlotUnitJobFailure it prevents
1Gongsun ZanFed to the enemy at the opening; his death raises team damage and lowers damage takenA slow start
2Jia XuShreds enemy defense and drains rageThe enemy ultimates first
3Hua TuoHeals through the openingLü Bu dying before the trigger
4Tai Shi CiStacks attack for the teamA trigger with no damage behind it
5Lü BuThe carry, in the back—

No Gongsun Zan? Zhuge Liang or Cai Wenji can cover the slot with control instead of the opening sacrifice. If the enemy's area damage is heavy, move Hua Tuo ahead of the damage dealers. If the enemy brings a lot of crowd control, bring the controller in and accept a slower start.

The rule: if your carry is outdamaging the team but the team still loses, you are missing a debuff, not another damage dealer. The first slot is a resource, not a survivor.

One fish belongs to one general

Spirit fish are global buffs, not gear you move between units. Two matter here. The armor-break fish, Chiyu, is the usual free-player pick for stage content, because armor break pays better there than raw attack or crit. Wushuang is built around Lü Bu, packing attack, crit, crit damage and damage reduction.

Then there is the trap. The Azure Dragon is tied to Guan Yu, and its exclusive effect does nothing for Lü Bu. Feeding it to him costs the fish and gains nothing.

Sockets follow a fixed order: weapon, then armor, then helmet, then mount. Do not open armor sockets while the weapon is still short of five. Supports need three sockets and no more; spreading materials across the roster is how a sacrifice lineup stops working. Affix priority is armor break, then attack, then damage reduction, then crit.

Community write-ups put the armor-break graduation point somewhere between 160 and 190. The figures come from different authors and neither has been reproduced in a controlled test, so treat the band as a target zone, not a switch. If a guide quotes one exact number, check it against a replay at your own power level before you rebuild anything.

Fewer bodies, faster clears

Auto-battle rounds animate one unit at a time. Fewer deployed units mean shorter animations, and shorter animations mean more clears per hour.

Below a reported 6,000 stages, the fastest stable core is three units: Lü Bu, Tai Shi Ci and Zhang Fei. Past that point, stability outweighs speed, and a five-unit control version takes over: Lü Bu, Guo Jia, Tai Shi Ci, Zhuge Liang or Wei Yan, and Cai Wenji. An extreme variant trims further with two Lü Bu copies and Zhang Fei, but that is a timing experiment, not a default.

Supports stop at the level where their passive unlocks, reported as 700. Everything else goes into the carry: promotion stones, iron, weapon and mount. If a clear is already stable, cut a unit before you add one. If it has started failing at the boss, add control rather than a second damage dealer.

What the numbers cannot settle

Two pieces of this game are reported but unconfirmed. Salt-field mode is described as a cross-server capture map where the main general brings control and a finisher, and where the salt tower drops promotion stones. That comes from a single community source with no figures attached, so treat it as a lead if the mode appears in your client at all. The heart-demon line and the armor-break line are disputed in the same way.

The response is identical in both cases: if a claim would change a week of material allocation, test it on a replay at matched power first. One controlled fight settles more than three guides that disagree.

FAQ

Why is Lü Bu better in the back?

His damage spike starts only after he is pushed below a health line. In front he often dies before that happens; in back the expendable units absorb the opening.

Which spirit fish should go on Lü Bu?

Wushuang if you have it, because its bonuses are built around him. Chiyu is the armor-break default for stage pushing. The Azure Dragon stays with Guan Yu, since its exclusive effect does not transfer.

Is 160 or 190 the armor-break target?

Community sources disagree and neither number has been verified. Treat 160–190 as a reported range and confirm with your own replay before you rebuild sockets.
