King's Decree Beginner's Guide: Skill Fusion and the Three Opening Builds

A King's Decree opening plan: how level-up picks become fusions, which of the three builds fits your gems, and why the castle wall ends most runs.

Most King's Decree runs fail at the level-up screen, not at the wall. You take a damage card that looks strong, skip the second half of a fusion, and reach wave twelve with four upgraded skills that never combine. The English title is a working translation and the game currently runs in Chinese, so the skill names below are readable translations rather than store-listing terms.

Level-ups are fusion ingredients

Kills give experience, every level-up offers three choices, and taking the same skill again upgrades it. Some pairs fuse into a super weapon once both halves are in place. That makes the choice screen a recipe list, not a tier list.

PairResult
Arcane Missile + FireballMissile Blast
Fireball + Fireball BlastFireball Burst
Arcane Missile + Ice ConeMissile Pierce
Chain Lightning + Range Expansion, with a strong tornado componentLightning Tornado
Focused Laser + FocusFocused Blast

If you are one pick away from a fusion, take the missing ingredient even when a stat card looks better. If you have no path to any fusion, upgrade a skill you already own rather than opening a fourth line.

Stages 1–40: arcane explosion without a core gem

Arcane Missile carries this build, with Fireball taken as a fusion prerequisite rather than as a second damage source. Tornado, rolling log and Focused Laser fill the rest of the bar. Upgrade in this order: rapid fire, explosion, volley, penetration, then amplification. The super weapon chain runs Missile Blast into Flame Missile, and the practical threshold is volley plus one and penetration plus one.

Tornado is the grouping tool that makes every area skill hit more targets, so it deserves levels alongside the carry. If you own no core gem and you are under stage 40, stay on arcane explosion. If high-HP enemies stop dying, that is the signal to change archetype, not to add more raw damage.

After stage 40: ice cone needs the gem, not just the level

The ice cone freeze build pairs Ice Cone with Tornado pulling enemies together, and its breakthrough is the three-pronged ice cone. It requires a core gem that ties the Arcane Missile line to Ice Cone, plus an ice storm gem; without both, the freeze plan is slower than the arcane plan it replaced.

If an ice-immune stage shows up, do not force the build through it. If you already own the replacement gem and you are past stage 40, the switch is worth it; if you do not, keep playing arcane explosion and collect the pieces.

Lightning chain answers bosses and crowds

The lightning build needs two specific gems before it works: one makes the lightning strike carry a chain that bounces four times, and the other lets Arcane Missile stand in for the lightning strike. A single tornado kill-time gem is enough on top. Inside the run, the key upgrades are lightning ball split, chain paralysis and the electromagnetic field.

This archetype is the boss and dense-crowd answer, but its cooldown is long, so cooldown reduction is part of the build rather than a bonus. If you hold only one of the two required gems, do not start it; if you hold both and the stage sends packs at you, it is the cleanest clear available.

The wall, the question mark and the gem drawer

The castle wall reaching zero HP is the loss condition. Damage does not protect it, so wall healing and damage reduction picks belong in every build, especially once your damage is already enough to clear the wave. If your wall is below half and the three choices include wall healing, take it over another damage skill.

The question mark in the top-right corner shows the stage's monster weakness. Click it before you pick anything, because a resistance your main skill cannot get through turns a good build into a slow loss. If the weakness points away from your element, rebuild around the other one before the first wave rather than after the wall breaks.

Gems follow one rule: mechanic gems beat stat gems. Only orange and above are worth rerolling, and reroll stones belong on the staff, necklace and ring rather than on helmet, clothes or boots. The apprentice system opens at stage 30; take the attack and castle HP branches and leave the niche support nodes alone.

FAQ

Which build should I start with?

Arcane explosion. It needs no core gem and covers stages 1 through 40, so it is the correct default while you collect the pieces for the other two builds.

Do I need both gems for the lightning build?

Yes. One gem adds the chain bounce to the lightning strike and the other replaces Arcane Missile with it; one without the other does not produce the build.

Why did I lose with a full board of skills?

The wall reached zero HP. Damage alone does not protect it, so wall healing and damage reduction picks are part of the build, not luxuries.
