BangBang Survivor Beginner's Guide: Stage Bands and Max-HP Damage
A stage-banded BangBang Survivor route: when to leave incendiary shells, why max-HP percentage outgrows flat damage, and the six-slot reroll order.
Your first real wall in BangBang Survivor is rarely a shortage of skill levels. It is a build that stopped matching the stage band. The overseas version ships in English under this exact name, but the mechanic is what decides the run: the right damage type changes twice before stage 230, and the skill you invested in early can be the reason a boss survives.
The stage number picks the build
Incendiary shells carry stages 1 through 120. They clear waves and interrupt at the same time, and their burn is the setup for later percentage effects. The early thresholds are the armor car at level 14, the ice storm at level 6, and the fuel bomb at level 26, where the incendiary line starts producing max-HP damage.
From roughly 120 to 180, bosses stack both resistances and fire resistance. An incendiary build with no percentage affix scratches at them. Electromagnetic skills answer that: their burn reads max health, and the jump bounce carries damage across a thick body. This band is stable rather than fast, and the finish still comes from a percentage effect.
Past 180 and into the 230s, most runs are mixed. Incendiary clears the leftover wave, electromagnetic breaks armor and paralyzes, ice storm handles fast or regenerating enemies, and a wind, electric or incendiary percentage closes the boss.
If the next boss is listed with fire resistance, change your lineup before you enter. If you walk in with incendiary as your only damage source, the first failure is already decided.
Flat damage is eaten by the health curve
Enemy health scales hard enough that a fixed damage number has a shelf life. A build that clears early chapters does very little once the curve bends, and percentage damage is why the endgame is a max-HP problem rather than an attack problem.
Two kinds of percentage exist, and mixing them up is the usual late-game mistake.
- Deep damage deducts from max health directly, stacks with itself and has no normal ceiling. Poison, time rift, lucky ball and the electrode pillar all work this way.
- Capped percentage has a hard upper limit. Airdrop and incendiary percentage are the common examples, and the community-reported caps are far lower than the deep-damage ceiling.
The two calculate separately, so they stack. Airdrop plus poison, or time rift plus lucky ball, is a normal high-stage pairing rather than a redundant one.
Percentage damage reads attack and nothing else. Crit and gun damage bonuses do not raise the cap. So if a stage fails because the boss survives the last fifth of its bar, adding crit will not fix it; adding a percentage affix or attack will.
Super weapons flip at stars, not at color
A super weapon is not a skin. Its value arrives at star thresholds, so two items of the same rarity can be worth completely different amounts.
Star core is the incendiary anchor. Wearing it makes incendiary hits leave a burn zone. At five stars it gives the skill line a large damage bonus plus a cooldown reduction, and at fifteen stars it unlocks a melting zone that ticks along the path. The community-reported figures are a forty percent damage bonus and a ten percent cooldown reduction at five stars, with the melting zone ticking every quarter second at fifteen.
Temporal frost ring is the other anchor. At fifteen stars its cone widens and its freeze lengthens, and past stage 300 it stops being optional. If you are approaching 300 with no frost ring, plan for it before the stage, not after.
Two lines are traps. The extreme-cold ring is community-reported at hundreds of thousands of diamonds and calculates its percentage from current health rather than max health, so it gets outscaled. The ice dragon percentage needs a long ramp and only pays in a narrow late-stage speed-run window; do not reroll for it as a general answer.
Six slots, one reroll order
Season water only works on helmet, gloves, clothes and pants. Arm and boots take normal water. Spending a season-water batch on the wrong slot is the single most expensive mistake in the gear system.
| Slot | First affix to chase | Water |
|---|---|---|
| Helmet | Time rift percentage | Season |
| Gloves | Lucky ball percentage | Season |
| Clothes | Warp percentage | Season |
| Pants | Air blade percentage | Season |
| Arm | Poison percentage | Normal |
| Boots | Teleport | Normal |
Helmet comes first because time rift has the highest ceiling of the four season slots. Gloves are second, then clothes, then pants. The pants affix only triggers on a burning target, so it needs incendiary or electric burn already in the build; without that, it does nothing.
After the four percentages are in place, the helmet gets cooldown and the clothes get luck, which the community reports as a cooldown reduction at eighteen or above. Boots take teleport as a function slot, not a damage slot.
If you have one season-water batch and no helmet percentage, spend it on the helmet. The rule that follows from all of this is blunt: a level 30 incendiary skill without the percentage affix loses to a level 26 one with it.
Fusions are build paths
The combination skills are not finishers you press once. They are how a damage school reaches its percentage.
- Incendiary plus drone gives a flame drone that ignites. Ignition is the prerequisite for a wind percentage finisher.
- Incendiary plus armor car gives a scorched-ground strategy that ignites tar and converts it into percentage damage.
- Armor car plus airdrop gives a steel torrent that instantly kills ground units. It is a wave tool, not a boss tool, and its damage is low when it triggers on teleport.
If you run incendiary, take the drone fusion before adding a second damage school. Without ignition, half your late-game percentage options never trigger.
FAQ
Should I switch to electromagnetic before or after stage 120?
Plan the switch when the next boss brings fire resistance, usually somewhere in the 120 to 180 band. Switching after a failed attempt costs a run; switching before costs nothing.
Why does my level 30 skill lose to a level 26 one?
Because the affix, not the level, carries the damage. A percentage affix on the lower-level skill outperforms a higher-level skill without one, especially once the health curve bends.
Does crit help percentage damage?
No. Percentage damage scales with attack only, so crit and gun damage bonuses do not raise its cap. Build crit for your flat-damage skills and treat percentage as a separate budget.
