Gladiator Raising Gear Guide: Four Build Thresholds and the Codex First Rule
How Gladiator Raising's five builds hit their dodge, stun, lifesteal and combo thresholds, and why the soul card codex comes before any single card.
A Gladiator Raising build is not a gear score. It is a single number you are trying to reach, and every affix, soul card and merge either moves you toward it or wastes a resource. The players who stall are rarely short of legendaries. They are short of one threshold while carrying three half-finished stats.
The threshold is the build
Community write-ups quantify five builds. The numbers are reported, not official, and two sources disagree on the crit figure for the stun-crit build, so treat that as a range.
| Build | Reported threshold | Affix order | Job |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dodge | 50 percent or higher dodge | Dodge, crit, counter, lifesteal, stun resistance | General PvE and PvP; counters crit, fears sure-hit enemies |
| Stun-crit | 35 percent stun, 28 to 35 percent crit, plus stun resistance | Stun, crit, crit damage, intimidation | New-server ranking and arena |
| Lifesteal | 30 percent or higher | Lifesteal, health, damage reduction, crit | World bosses; weak burst, poor at speed racing |
| Crit | No separate threshold reported | Crit and crit damage | Farming small mobs; weak survival |
| Combo | Attack speed 120, combo 50 percent, crit 40 percent, plus stun resistance | Combo first, then supporting stats | Explicitly a late build |
Dodge has three named pieces in the source: a cloak with 15 percent dodge and one-round stealth when hit, a dancer piece with 12 percent dodge and 10 percent double dodge, and an eye piece with 8 percent dodge that heals 5 percent of health on a dodge. The other builds are described by stat direction rather than a full item list.
Decision rule: if you cannot reach the first number in a row, do not start buying the second stat. Below 50 percent dodge you do not have a dodge build yet, and every source ranks crit behind dodge in the affix order, so early crit spending does not substitute for the missing threshold.
Affix order per build
- Dodge: dodge, crit, counter, lifesteal, stun resistance. The last line is not cosmetic; the same write-up names stun as the counter to dodge.
- Stun-crit: stun, crit, crit damage, intimidation, with stun resistance added separately so an enemy stun does not steal your opening.
- Lifesteal: lifesteal, health, damage reduction, crit. In a war of attrition, health is a damage stat.
- Combo: attack speed and combo first, crit behind them, stun resistance before the damage stats are finished. Without anti-stun, the source warns, output gets cut off.
- Crit: crit and crit damage only. This is a farming line, and the source notes its survival is poor.
One rule overrides the table: a purple piece with the right affixes beats a red piece with the wrong ones. Rarity raises the ceiling; affixes decide whether you reach the threshold.
Decision rule: if a red item does not move your build's first threshold, keep the purple that does and convert the red.
Light the codex before a single card
Soul cards look like a collection, and the instinct is to invest in the card that fits your build. The community rule is the opposite: light the codex first, because completed entries grant global stats regardless of which cards are equipped.
The reported pairs are Pegasus and Cupid for dodge, Asura and Orion as the stun-crit core, and Atalanta and Cupid for lifesteal. The third stun-crit card is reported inconsistently, which suggests the slot is flexible rather than fixed.
Decision rule: if a card is not in your build's pair, level it only when it completes a new codex entry. Otherwise it is a stat you cannot use, and the resources belong in the pair you equip.
Gear rules that beat rarity
Three pieces of the same quality merge into one of the next tier. That changes how you handle duplicates: a stack of three mediocre purples is not clutter, it is the input for a red.
Enhancement order in the reports is weapon, boots, armor, then accessory. Refining does not disappear when you swap gear, so it belongs on main slots you intend to keep. Do not mix gems before level 7; a mixed socket set is expensive to unwind and gives a smaller bonus than a focused one.
Decision rule: if you have three same-quality pieces in a slot you still use, merge before enhancing further. Each rule protects a bonus that survives your next gear swap.
The stuck-stage diagnostic
When a stage stops you, do not open the shop. Run the reported order, cheapest structural fix first.
- Chest level. If it is behind the stage tier, the drops are the problem. Fix that before rerolling anything.
- Build affixes. Check that each equipped piece matches the build's affix order. One off-build piece can drop you below the threshold.
- Soul card bonds. Check codex entries and pair bonuses before chasing a new card.
- Weapon enhancement. Only now spend on raw enhancement, starting with the weapon.
- Drop stages and idle. If nothing above moves the needle, drop back and idle for resources instead of retrying.
Decision rule: if the stage fails by a small margin, fix step one or two; if it fails badly, go to step five and idle for a session rather than spending your way through.
FAQ
Which build should a free player start with?
Dodge. It is reported as the general PvE and PvP line, it works without a full set of premium pieces, and it counters crit builds. Its known weakness is sure-hit enemies, so expect one or two stages to bypass it.
Is the combo build worth starting early?
No. The sources call it a late build with a long ramp, gated behind main chapter 21 and chest level 24. Starting early means holding stats you cannot use yet.
Do I need an exact soul card trio?
Not before the codex is lit. Two-card pairs are reported for each build, and the third stun-crit card varies between write-ups. Complete entries for global stats first.
