Time Grocery Beginner's Guide: Talents, Vehicles and Store Levels
Time Grocery's four talent tracks, the two-card referral rule, and why a new shop needs level 50 plus two floors before a strong manager moves in.
"Time Grocery" is a working translation. The game currently runs in Chinese as a WeChat mini game and an Android release, so the track names and job titles you see will not match the English labels here. The first decision that matters is not which shop to open next. It is which of your four talent tracks gets the next book, because everything else in the game pays out through that track.
Four tracks, one main talent
Talents come in four types: farm, business, culture and entertainment. All four level with experience books and ginseng, and all four feed income in different ways, but only one should be your carrying talent at a time.
Vehicles are the part people get wrong. A vehicle adds aptitude and percentage stats to the talent it is assigned to. That means a vehicle on a secondary talent is a percentage bonus applied to a small base, and the same vehicle on your main is a multiplier on your best number.
If a new vehicle arrives and your first instinct is to fill an empty slot, stop. Assign it to the main talent, or leave it unequipped until the main talent can take it.
The artist track is the bridge between talent and publicity. Charm items and film shoots raise an artist's fame, and that fame feeds back into shop income. If your shops are leveled but income is flat, the entertainment track is the missing multiplier rather than a side project.
Save referral cards until you hold two
The opening scratch card hands out referral cards for talents. The rule is to save them until you hold two before exchanging.
The first exchange brings in the manager, whose main value is not his own stats. The manager adds two extra entries to the square-cockfight activity, and he pairs with the early artist, who strengthens him as her fame rises. One card spent early gets you a hire without the pair.
- If you hold one referral card, keep it. The second card is what turns the exchange into a manager plus activity entries.
- If you already exchanged one card before reading this, keep building the early artist; the pair is still the strongest use of the manager you have.
The extra square-cockfight entries are not cosmetic. They are additional attempts at an activity with its own rewards, and they come with every full two-card exchange.
A new shop is not ready at unlock
Unlocking a shop feels like progress and is really a prerequisite. A newly unlocked shop should be leveled to 50 and given at least two floors before you assign a high-aptitude talent to it.
The reason is the return curve. A talent assigned to a low-level shop produces a small number, and moving that talent later costs you the days it spent underperforming. Level the building, then staff it.
Shops also unlock auto-operation at a level threshold. Until that unlocks, the shop needs manual attention, so it makes sense to level one shop at a time rather than opening three and staffing none of them.
Before a talent moves in, check the building:
- [ ] Is the shop at level 50?
- [ ] Does it have at least two floors?
- [ ] Has auto-operation unlocked?
- [ ] Is the talent you are assigning actually your high-aptitude one?
If a shop has just unlocked and your best free talent is idle, park that talent on your strongest existing shop and leave the new one empty. If a shop has reached auto-operation, it can hold a low-aptitude talent without costing you attention.
Stamina and the late-stage wall
Travel stamina returns 48 points per day. That is a fixed budget, not a resource to save, so stamina left at the end of a day is progress you did not collect.
- If you have a full stamina bar and a stage you cannot clear, spend it on the highest stage you can still clear. Currency from a cleared stage beats a failed attempt.
- If a late stage keeps failing, it is designed around a one-click clear card or a rewarded ad. Do not grind it manually for an hour; use the shortcut the game offers.
Late stages are where the simulator stops being a management game and becomes a progression check. If your shops are leveled and your main talent is fed, the clear is a matter of the shortcut, not of playing better.
Rankings tell you which track to feed
The leaderboards track income, stage progress and charm, plus separate activity boards for the small minigames such as field fishing and cat's cradle. Each board is a different question, and they do not all reward the same talent.
If you are pushing the income board, put books and ginseng into business and entertainment, because those two tracks multiply shop output. If you are pushing the charm board, the artist is the whole board, and charm items belong to her rather than to a shop talent. The stage board tracks how far you have cleared, so it follows your shops and your main talent rather than a separate stat.
The mistake is feeding all four tracks evenly. A balanced account looks healthy and ranks nowhere on any board. Pick the board you are actually chasing, and let the other tracks sit.
FAQ
Should I use my first referral card right away?
No. Save until you hold two, so the first exchange brings in the manager and adds the extra square-cockfight entries. A single card spent early loses the pair.
Can I put a vehicle on a secondary talent?
You can, but you should not. Vehicles add percentage stats, so they only make sense on the talent carrying your income. Leave the vehicle unequipped until your main talent can take it.
Why is my new shop earning so little?
Because a freshly unlocked shop is underleveled. Level it to 50 and add at least two floors before assigning a high-aptitude talent, then let auto-operation take over.
